Narrative vs. Documentary
What you expect is not usually what is real. This is especially true in narrative vs. documentary film making. A narrative script is pre-destined, with chosen words and specific actors to make the story move and entertain in a particular way. The script has been written in such a way to hit specific highlights and build tension. Documentaries on the other hand tend to develop their stories after the shooting has begun- the story finds itself in the editing room. These films tend to rely on the subjects actions to create a story, along with mixing dialogue from interviews. Documentary films are usually more informative and bring reality to the audiences attention. Narrative film on the other hand provides a way to escape into another place and time. With having unlimited creativity, narrative films are usually more expensive to make. To hire a large crew filled with superstar actors and directors could costs millions. Documentary is cheaper since the crews are smaller and use less equipment making the film.
